40 unethical practices that are surprisingly common in some schools, as people point out on the internet

The school must now be a place of learning, where impatient minds will try to absorb all possible knowledge and experience before they enter the real world.

Alas, schools are also places where certain decisions raise more questions than they can answer, and in some cases this has reached unethical levels.

Reddit folks list the unethical practices that schools practice and no one really blinks about it. The discussion generated nearly 11,000 comments and over 24,000 votes.

Harassing teenage girls for “dressing up inappropriately” when you see a millimeter of their bra straps (or some other nonsense of that sort). Telling them it’s distracting the boys and getting unwanted attention.

When they are actually persecuted (or worse), the school does nothing.

40 unethical practices that are surprisingly common in some schools, as people point out on the internetI was a decently misbehaving third grader. I told the teacher that my stomach hurts and I need to see the nurse. I have asked several times. She thought I was just trying not to waste time on individual reading. My appendix burst on the bus ride home.

I never asked to go to the nurse. Just a hyperactive child who, apparently, bothered my teacher. Denying medical attention to an eight-year-old child seems unethical. This is not a story about a “boy who screamed a wolf” for all those who say: “I told you so.”

40 unethical practices that are surprisingly common in some schools, as people point out on the internetThis is probably very specific to my home country, but checking for periods

I am from Malaysia, and yes, unfortunately, this is a thing, and I witnessed it firsthand. Basically to make sure girls don’t lie about their periods just to take their minds off their prayer activities.

40 unethical practices that are surprisingly common in some schools, as people point out on the internetMake hair part of the uniform and specify what hairstyles and colors students can wear. Also allow girls to wear short skirts in summer, but not let boys wear shorts. I saw quite a few schools on the news where boys were forced to protest and wear skirts in the summer because they were not allowed to wear shorts.

40 unethical practices that are surprisingly common in some schools, as people point out on the internetHumiliation and / or challenge of students in front of the whole class

and also telling the whole class something like “you will never pass my class / go to Harvard / go to college” to the whole class for some reason always with a stupid, arrogant grin on his face … The first two stories are real, the first from my teacher algebra with honors II to 15/16 year olds and second from my HONORS SCHOOL to 14/15 year olds, which should have prepared me for just that !! What makes the second even worse is that the person who said it was … wait … SCHOOL CONSULTANT !!!

Diagnosis of children who are not interested in the curriculum with ADHD. I still don’t understand how I was diagnosed with ADHD in elementary school only to have it magically disappear in mid-high school, to reappear in my freshman high school, to disappear again in my sophomore.

40 unethical practices that are surprisingly common in some schools, as people point out on the internetThe worst? Probably the exorbitant cost of a visit. The most obvious evidence of this is the endless list of Administrators, Administrative Assistants, Specialists, Administrative Assistants, and the list goes on. Unless you’re darn poor and eligible for US Pell Grants, the cost of a brand-name school is hard to swallow. Add inflation and it gets worse.

Forcing children to start earlier than they need to, which harms their mental and emotional development. America seems to have two societies: the well-adjusted and the publicly educated.
