Actors who lost movie roles for petty reasons

Every actor has a story about a failed take due to uncontrollable laughter; film sets and auditions are high-pressure scenarios, and it’s natural for some performers to react with a fit of giggles. Spider-Man: No Home Actor Tom Holland remembered a case where laughter turned upside down a very important audition in an episode of the YouTube series “Hot” in 2021. Doing his best to endure a lot of scalding hot sauces, Holland recalled that his audition for the role of Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was ruined by his stage partner, who voiced the droid.

“I just remember thinking that this lady would never read the lines of the robot in front of me, because it would be ridiculous,” Holland said. “I don’t remember what my phrase was, but it was [something like], “Let’s go back to the Falcon!” and this lady, bless her, was sitting there with all her dedication and saying, “Beep-boop-beep-boop.”

“I remember saying, ‘You’re not really going to do this, are you?’ And she said: “Well, yes, the robot is part of the scene, he is a character,” Holland said. “I’m just giggling because you know when you realize something is wrong with you? I just couldn’t stop laughing.”

Although he never joined the Star Wars franchise, Holland landed the coveted role of Spider-Man in what is arguably the greatest consolation prize ever.
