The Independent Film and Television Alliance today unveiled confirmed attendees as well as speakers at the opening of the 43rd edition of the American Film Market, which will be held at the Loews Beach Hotel in Santa Monica and in theaters across the city from November 1-6.
So far, 225 sales, production and distribution organizations, including international trade organizations, film commissions and production services companies, have registered for the 2022 edition of the industry’s only independent sales marketplace. Confirmed exhibiting companies include A24, Altitude Film Entertainment, Charades, CJ ENM, Contents Panda, Emperor Motion Pictures, Film Mode Entertainment, FilmNation, Gaumont, Global Screen GmbH, Hanway Films, Lakeshore, Lionsgate, Magnolia Pictures, MGM Studios, Millennium Media , Pathé Films, Protagonist Pictures, Screen Media, Sierra/Affinity, STUDIOCANAL, Toei Company, Ltd., TrustNordisk, UNIFRANCE, Voltage, WME Independent and XYZ Films.
Along with sales activities, AFM offers a full schedule of conferences and networking opportunities while exploring new industry realities. The AFM Sessions will feature over 100 speakers on two stages at the Loews Hotel. Leading independent financiers, producers and executives Jason Cloth (founder/CEO of Creative Wealth Media), Milan Popelka (COO of FilmNation), Laura Lewis (founder of Rebelle Media) and Basil will come to the opening financial conference “The Risk Takers”. Ivanik (founder of Thunder Road Pictures) on stage Wednesday morning, November 2nd.
“The first commitments and excitement from companies around the world to Santa Monica, as well as collaborative projects, is a sign that the industry is back to work,” said IFTA President and CEO Jean Pruitt. “While business models have clearly changed, independent cinema will always be based on discovery, collaboration, innovation and intuition, making the need for annual face-to-face meetings like AFM essential to our industry.”
IFTA also today announced two executive additions to its AFM team: Matthew Thompson and Katherine Girard-Cobb have been appointed to the newly created positions of AFM Co-Managing Directors, who now report to President and CEO Jean Prewitt. The pair will join longtime IFTA Vice Presidents Jennifer Garnick and Robin Burt to develop and support AFM’s shared vision, operations and production.
Thompson, who has 25 years of experience in organizing and organizing events, will oversee the AFM Attendee segment and will be responsible for check-in, hotels, transportation, conference management and the MyAFM networking platform. Previously, he served as event director and consultant for clients such as Adweek, the Tribeca Film Festival, Nespresso and the Skirball Cultural Center.
Girard-Cobb, who will manage the AFM exhibitor experience including registration, film screenings and furniture and equipment, is a 20-year event veteran. For most of her career, she has successfully managed large scale trade shows and live and virtual events, most recently for London’s Clarion Events, Quartz North America and Bobit Business Media’s 20th Annual Market Events.
