The luxury label announced his departure in a press release on Wednesday, November 23rd, explaining that the designer is “retiring”.

the president Marco Bizarri and CEO of Kering François-Henri Pinault applauded 49-year-old Michele in a memo. “I was lucky to have the opportunity to meet Alessandro at the end of 2014, since then we have had the pleasure of working closely as Gucci charted its successful path over the past eight years,” said Bizarri. He added: “I would like to thank him for his 20 years of commitment to Gucci, as well as his vision, dedication and unconditional love for this unique Maison during his tenure as creative director.”

I wish him a great next chapter in his creative journey.”

Michel, for his part, expressed appreciation for his time with the company. “There are times when paths diverge because of the different points of view that each of us can have,” he began. “Today marks the end of an extraordinary journey of more than twenty years for me within a company to which I tirelessly devoted all my love and creative passion. During this long period, Gucci has been my home, my foster family.”

The creative went on to praise his Gucci family. “To this big family, to all the people who took care of her and supported her, I express my most sincere gratitude, the biggest and most sincere hugs,” said Michele. “Together with them I wished, dreamed, imagined. Without them, none of what I have built would have been possible. My most sincere wish to them: may you continue to cultivate your dreams, subtle and intangible matter, for which it is worth living. Keep nourishing yourself with poetic and inclusive imagery while staying true to your values. May you always live your passions, driven by the wind of freedom.
