One more season America’s Got Talent came to an end and America voted for their winner, making the Mayyas the undisputed champions of Season 17. Lebanese dance group wins $1 million and will join America’s Las Vegas Talent Search Live stage show at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
“From the moment I first saw the Mayyas, their performance was breathtaking and gave me goosebumps,” said Sofia Vergara. “Their well-coordinated choreography was the most beautiful and creative dance I have ever seen. Every time they competed, they continued to outdo themselves. Their inspiring performances have earned them the highest title and I am so proud of them and can’t wait to see what they do next.”
Mayyas is an all-female alternative dance team founded by choreographer Nadim Cherfan and made up of 36 Lebanese women of various ages. Their main message is the empowerment of women. The name of their group comes from the Arabic word for the proud gait of a lioness. Building a career in Lebanon was difficult, especially for dancers, so it was important for the band to compete on the biggest stage. AGT and show the world what Arab women are capable of.
Season 17 of America’s Got Talent concluded tonight with a memorable finale at the Pasadena Civic Center featuring judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandela, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and host Terry Crews. The finale of the show featured 11 top finalists, including the Black Eyed Peas, country music artists Darius Rucker and John Purdy, Trombone Shorty, and previous America’s Got Talent winners Terry Fator, Darcy Lynn and Shin Lim, along with memorable guests. . Emmy-winning actor/director Henry Winkler and comedian Jeff Ross also appeared.
