Supporting the new sovereign. King Charles IIIwife, Queen consort Camillaand his eldest son, Prince Williamstood next to the monarch when he was proclaimed king in the official ascension ceremony.
The newly appointed Prince of Wales, 40, and the Queen Consort, 75, looked grim as Charles, 73, who ascended the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 on Thursday, September 9, officially became the reigning monarch in front of the Council of joining at St James’s Palace on Saturday 10 September.
William and Camilla, dressed in dark suits, stood silently against the wall during the monarch’s speech, each with their hands folded. All three members of the royal family signed the Proclamation of Charles’ Ascension.
Announcing the death of his late mother, the sovereign noted: “I am deeply aware of this great inheritance and the duties and heavy responsibility of sovereignty, which have now passed to me.”
He continued: “In assuming these responsibilities, I will strive to follow the inspiring example that has been set for me,” sharing my “willingness and intention to continue the tradition of transferring ancestral income, including the crown estate, to the government for the benefit of all in exchange for a sovereign grant that supports my official duties as Head of State and Head of the Nation.”
The King, who now presides over the Church of England, concluded: “In carrying out the heavy task entrusted to me, to which I dedicate what is left of my life to me. I pray for the guidance and help of Almighty God.”
Charles previously shared his admiration for his eldest son and his wife during his inaugural speech as king on Friday, September 9th.
Declaring his 17-year-old wife his queen consort, the sovereign declared: “I know [Camilla] will bring to the demands of her new role the unwavering devotion to duty that I rely so heavily on.”
As for William and Duchess KateCharles shared that the couple will “continue to inspire and guide our national conversations by helping bring the marginalized to the center where life-saving help can be provided.”
Hours later, a source exclusively told Us weekly about how the King of England is relying on Camilla and William in this transitional time.
“King Charles refers to Camilla as his ‘tower of power,'” an insider said. “[He] says she makes him better. Obviously, this is not an easy time for him as he moves into a new era without his beloved mother and he is incredibly emotional.” The monarch also “works closely with Prince William in a cut-down monarchy”.
In addition to naming Camilla, William and Kate in his first speech as monarch, Charles also expressed his “love” for his youngest son. Prince Harryand his daughter-in-law Meghan Markle“as they continue to build their lives abroad.”
