Matty Johnson and Laura Byrne are a pin-up bachelor success story.
The Sydney-based couple, who met on a Channel 10 dating series in 2017, have since welcomed two little girls and are currently finalizing plans for a November wedding, but their enduring love story almost never materialized.
In an incredibly unexpected confession, Byrne, 31, confesses in her new book with Brittany Hockley: We love lovethat she chickened out and pulled out of the show when she was supposed to start production.
Byrne detailed the incident on news.com.au. I have news for you a podcast revealing to host Andrew Bucklow that she “completely changed her mind” and didn’t show up for the shoot.
“If you’re selected, you’re assigned a time and place, and it’s a secret time and a secret place to try and confuse the paparazzi,” Byrne explained.
“I had a pickup truck in Alexandria at some random park at 3pm and you had to come with all your suitcases and the bus would come and pick you up.
“And I remember that 3 p.m. came and went, and I was sitting at home and didn’t pack my bag. I just completely changed my mind. I really didn’t want to do it, I was worried about what it would look like vying for the attention of a man on a reality show.”
Byrne said the producers then called her and said she had until 10 a.m. the next day to think about a decision.
“[They said] “If you change your mind, your last opportunity to join the experiment is to arrive at the Ultimo Hotel by 10 a.m. tomorrow,” Byrne said.
“I went to bed that night, I didn’t pack or anything. And it sounds like “woo”, but I had a dream. I woke up at about two thirty in the morning. And I can’t remember the details [of the dream] but I had a feeling that something really huge and life-changing was waiting for me.
“I woke up my housemates and we packed my things and then at 6 a.m. they took me to the Ultimo Hotel and I was gone for three and a half months.”

Coming out tomorrow, the book is “an encyclopedia of the life that Britt and Laura have lived, full of hard-earned wisdom, hilarious anecdotes, serious challenges and refreshing honesty.”
Elsewhere in an interview with news.com.au, the duo also shared some behind-the-scenes secrets. Bachelor, and while they said it was mostly “unscripted”, the couple admitted that the producer interfered with how the scenes played out.
“At the end of each day, they will tell you, “Okay, this is your intimacy time. You have to tell them how you feel,” Byrne said.
“[And] Cocktail parties last a very long time. Sometimes they finish at two or three in the morning. And then, what often happens, the remaining girls, as soon as the cocktail party is over, they will tell you to go inside, put on your casual clothes, and you have to pretend it’s the next day, because they need to get some scenes. Performed. So you’ll be sitting at the coffee table, and it’s literally two in the morning.”
Byrne added: “But they have everything brightly lit and you sit there and go, ‘Oh, the cocktail party last night was crazy,’ but you’re actually pretty damn tired because it’s already two in the morning. morning. And if you look closely, everyone still has lashes and makeup.”
