ICONIC actress Betty White died on Friday, just days before her 100th birthday on January 17.
But some of those close to the 99-year-old said they were saddened to know that the Golden Girls star’s health had “been deteriorating for some time.”

Paul and husband Patrick Simpson were planning to create a dress for Betty’s stellar 100th birthday party.
But they were told that this was not necessary.
“In October, we contacted her management about a dress for her 100th birthday.
“We were told that her health was deteriorating and that a robe would not be needed.”
Fashion designer Paul’s husband Patrick also shared that they are “not surprised” but “incredibly sad” by the news.
“WE ARE NOT SATISFIED”
“When I found out about Betty’s death this morning, I was incredibly sad. But we weren’t surprised, Patrick said.
“As we knew, her health had been deteriorating for quite some time.”

“She really wanted to live to be 100. She was a great friend and we will always remember her with love.
“She was a bright light in this dark world, and this light will always shine from above, always.”
Paul and Patrick designed Betty’s iconic turquoise dress for her 2010 SAG Lifetime Achievement Award.
“We made a dress for Betty White as a service to her,” added Paul. “It was one of her most iconic dresses.”

In the last tweet before her death, Betty also thought about the special day ahead:
“My 100th birthday … I can’t believe it’s coming soon.”
While some close friends may have known Betty’s health was deteriorating, TMZ stated that she was not ill and reportedly did not struggle with any particular ailment.
The Lake Placid actress is believed to have died of natural causes.
Jeff Witjas, an agent and friend of the actress, stated that PEOPLE: “Even though Betty was about 100 years old, I thought she would live forever.
“I will miss her terribly, as well as the animal kingdom that she loved so much.
“I don’t think Betty ever feared death because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband, Allen Ludden.”
Jeff concluded, “She believed she would be with him again.”
