BRITNEY Spears has come under fire after she shared a scathing post in which she shamed longtime rival Christina Aguilera.
The American star posted a quote on her Instagram page saying, “I’ve found there’s only one way to look skinny: hang out with fat people,” before adding a taunt to the Lady Marmalade singer.
In a caption to her 42 million followers, Britney Spears wrote: “If I had Christina Aguilera dancers, I would look very small.
“I mean, why not talk about it?? Don’t you think that my confidence would be a little better if I could choose where I live, eat, who to call on the phone, meet and who is with me on stage?
Fans were quick to express their disappointment at the remarks and suggested that Britney find confidence in things beyond her size.
Many urged her to delete the post, with one saying, “This is so wrong. There is so much more to life than looking skinny.”
Another said, “Ugh. I love Brit – but that was bad taste. Body shaming to make yourself feel better is not the way to go.”
Someone else said to her, “Girl, don’t delete this and go look for the source of self-love without dragging other women’s bodies down. It’s not nice to post something like that.”
Britney is also believed to have fallen out with pop superstar Selena Gomez – just three months after the latter was one of the few celebrities in attendance at her wedding.
Selena joined Madonna, Drew Barrymore, Donatella Versace and Paris Hilton when Britney married her actor husband Sam Asgari in June.
However, they have now unfollowed each other on Instagram.
Britney appeared to allude to the fight by sharing earlier this week a video of herself dancing to Justin Bieber’s ex-boyfriend’s Honest song.
Singer Toxic wrote alongside the post, “I feel like I’m with Justin Bieber… offended? Do not look at me!!!”
Though they were new friends, Christina and Britney have long had a rocky relationship since they first worked together in 1993 on Disney’s The New Mickey Mouse Club.
Back in November, Britney criticized her on social media for “refusing to talk” about the end of her custody.
Christina refused to talk about it when asked on the red carpet, although she had tweeted five months earlier supporting her.
Sharing a video of the moment the singer dodged the custody issue, Brit then wrote, “I love and adore everyone who supported me…but refusing to speak when you know the truth is tantamount to lying!!!!
“13 years in a corrupt system of violence, but why is this such a difficult topic for people to discuss??? I’m the one who went through this!!!!
“To all the supporters who have spoken out and supported me, thank you… Yes, I do matter!!!!!”
