Chloe Bailey on Has Mercy and Her Debut Solo Album

How was the recording process?

Recording Process – This is different from being in my bedroom, when I’m really sad in the middle of the night, or even in the studio, when I’m with other songwriters and producers. And, you know, I’m finishing it, so it’s not quite finished yet. But it’s all over the place. I don’t really have a formula or specific plan; I just make music that makes my heart sing.

Was your approach different? ungodly hour, And did the pandemic affect your voice?

My creative approach is largely the same – it’s just me. But I’m going through different experiences when it comes to sounds and songs, and I’m using that to inspire me and the music. I am listening and experimenting [with] Different voices with my voice and hearing how it sounds on top of that and figuring out what I really like. So it’s been fun, which has been different. But, you know, the actual process, no, because I make music anyway.

[Writer’s note: She has “a few favorites that I’ll keep going back to and blasting in my car with my little brother,” but can’t tease any collabs or lyrics yet.]

Now that you’re killing it on your solo journey, what has it been like that Halle has supported you on your projects? and vice versa?

This has been the best thing. And I love it, because we’re both so strong together as a group, and also individually, and I’m so proud of her and all the solo efforts she’s going through. And I feel the same love and support from him. I can’t wait to continue supporting each other as we both move forward.
