Anyone who watched the 2021 pilot episode of NCIS: Hawaii will never forget how Lachey was first introduced as Agent Tennant. Dressed in a pink camouflage tracksuit, she is practicing youth soccer when a military helicopter lands on the field and she hops in to go to work.
This is a moment that will forever be remembered by Jen Nash, especially because of what happened behind the scenes.
“I was lucky enough to be there at the very beginning of filming with [pilot episode] “The day we were filming Jane Tennant in a tracksuit on the football field when the helicopter arrived,” Nash said. I still remember the conversation when [co-creator] Chris [Silber] broken [the opening scene]. She was going to be a football coach and Chris suggested a helicopter landing and we got the idea for a camouflage tracksuit.”
According to Nash, the memorable scene initially sounded too “crazy” to make it into the final cut.
“As writers, you say things out loud, but you say crazy things,” she said. “It seemed crazy, but it was true. It was magical, and the whole series continues to be magical for us in a certain way. I hope it stays that way no matter how many episodes it shows.”
NCIS: Hawaii returns to CBS for a second season on September 19. Meanwhile, the first season is now available on DVD from CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment. The six disc collection includes over 45 minutes of bonus content including featurettes, deleted scenes, extended scenes and a gag reel.
