A (brief) reality TV success story. Daniel Rule as well as Nick Thompson walked to the altar – and exchanged vows – after meeting in season 2 Love is blind.
The two were the first couple to get engaged after meeting in pods in the 2022 season, but their bliss didn’t last long. During a group trip to Mexico, Danielle, who was not feeling well, was upset when Nick returned from a party with his colleagues. Although she appeared to be furious with the way he interacted with the rest of the cast, Danielle later claimed that there were inaccurate speculations online about the fight.
“The truth is, I told Nick about a traumatic experience I had in college right before I suggested he go to a couples party without me to represent us as a couple. As I lay there sick, I began to reach into my thoughts and wonder if I shared too much too soon, and I began to lighten the event that I had been suppressing for so long, ”she wrote on Instagram in February 2022. “It gave me a panic attack and I hid in a closet so that no one could see me in such a public setting. I also looked outside at the couple’s party. It wasn’t because I was jealous, but because I needed support and wanted to see when Nick would come back.”
The marketing director noted that Nick “had no idea what happened” when he passed away.
“When he found out what was going on behind the scenes, he was more than supportive and we were able to learn from it and get over it. I want to reiterate that I am fully aware that I can project my anxiety onto others and this is something I am constantly working on,” she explained. “However, being pulled off the internet because of my mental health and being ‘diagnosed’ with all the disorders mentioned in the book based on an hour of footage taken over months of filming is not only detrimental to me and my family. but also to anyone who has had a similar experience.
Danielle has been candid on the show about dealing with anxiety. “I understand that I have work to do, and I was in excellent mental condition before going to the show. However, the stressful environment brought me back to a place that I did not expect,” she continued. “I hope that in the future everyone will recognize the real me – as a person, and not a reality show character. I am not looking for sympathy or saying that I have made no mistakes throughout my experience. I seek understanding for every person who may have demons they face behind closed doors, for anyone who feels distorted, or for anyone who is provoked by those who attack others for having feelings, which others may not understand.
Love is blindDeepti Vempati also took to Instagram to defend Danielle.
“We have been best friends since the show ended. We were brought together by the love of music, Office, inflatable guitars, our insecurities, our anxieties and our love for others,” she wrote. “I have seen a lot of hate and negative comments and it makes me sad. Mental health is an important topic and I won’t pretend to know everything about it. But one thing is for sure, when you’re trying to heal and grow, you need to have a healthy environment.”
Nick reposted the comments, adding, “Beautiful posts from beautiful people. Let’s be kinder and support each other.”
Despite a rough trip to Mexico – and a few other setbacks – Danielle and Nick were one of two couples to finally wed in February 2022, joining Ianna McNeely as well as Jarett Jones as one of the duets to get married. However, in August, both couples broke up.
