Dick Van Dyke, 96, hits the gym with wife Arlene Silver, 50 | Photo

The Mary Poppins star and his wife, Arlene Silver, who is 46 years his junior, were spotted together at a gym in Malibu.

Mary Poppins icon Dick Van Dyke, 96, was in high spirits as he stepped out in a Sugar Spoon sweatshirt in Malibu, California this week.

The age-defying actor was accompanied by his 50-year-old wife Arlene Silver as they headed out for lunch after finishing their fitness classes at a nearby gym.

The couple celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary back in February by posting a romantic Valentine’s Day video online, but still looked like newlyweds in love as they laughed together as they walked in the sun.

In addition to a sweatshirt nodding to his most famous movie role, Van Dyke kept it casual during his lunch date by donning a pair of Adidas sweatpants he allegedly wore while working out.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang the star is famous for keeping fit and healthy, despite his advanced age, telling closer weekly that he still goes to the gym three times a week.

“I have always been involved in sports and still … I go to the pool and play sports. At my age, they say keep moving. Put me on solid ground and I’ll start tapping,” he told the magazine back in 2019.

Van Dyke said that he does water aerobics, lifts weights and walks on a treadmill. He also attributed his toned physique to “good genes”.

Meanwhile, the smitten star said the much younger Silver also keeps him on his toes.

“I sometimes forget that we are doing a big experiment here – a difference of 46 years. And we are working on it to some extent,” he explained. “There has to be some understanding, to figure out which old habits no longer work. It takes some adaptation and adjustment, but that’s part of the fun.”

Van Dyke first met Silver at the 2007 Screen Actors Guild Awards. He was 81 at the time and she was only 35.

Silver spoke to Closer in a separate interview earlier this year, recalling the moment she first saw her current husband.

“He said, ‘Hi, I’m Dick.’ The first thing I asked him was, “Weren’t you at Mary Poppins?” We immediately hit it off as friends, so it didn’t feel like he was much older than me,” she told the publication.

The devoted wife continued cooing, “He is the most perfect man. I have never met anyone so happy, so sincere, so amazing. He’s just like a happy pill.”

The couple were friends for several years before their relationship turned into a romantic one.

Van Dyke said he was glad his fans were supportive of the relationship, adding, “I thought there would be outrage over a gold digger marrying an old man, but no one has ever taken that position.”

Back in February, the couple showed off their hilarious relationship in a Valentine’s Day video.

The pair were seen dancing to a 1958 cover of Doris Day’s song. Everyone loves a lover performed by Silver’s band, Arlene & the Vantastix.

Silver is Van Dyke’s second wife. The four-time Emmy Award winner separated from his first wife and mother of four, Margie Willett, in 1984 after 36 years of marriage.

Van Dyke was also in a relationship with actress Michelle Triola for over 30 years until she died in 2009.
