DIY SOS FANS were left in tears tonight as three orphaned boys were given their “dream home”.
Earlier in the episode, the brothers opened up about their grief over the loss of their beloved mom.
Their story began with their grandparents who adopted them when their mother, Carrie, sadly passed away.
After 15 years raising 103 children, Stephen and Lynn Smedley looked forward to a well-deserved retirement together in Carbis Bay, Cornwall.
However, in April 2017, their dream changed dramatically when their beloved 32-year-old daughter, Carrie, died.
Single mother Carrie, who was the mother of 17-year-old Reuben, 11-year-old Jayden and 10-year-old Uche, was found by her youngest son, who was too young to understand what had happened.
“In fact, Uche found her, he was six years old. She and Jayden just thought they couldn’t wake up Mom,” Grandma Lynn explained to guide Nick Knowles on today’s DIY SOS program.
While the younger boys could not understand what had happened, older brother Reuben realized that their mother had died and protected his younger siblings by taking them to a relative.
“They have an older brother, Ruben, he went upstairs and realized what happened. These two little boys had to find their mom like this,” Lynn said.
“Reuben, who was 13 at the time, went straight to my mom, who lives just five minutes away.
“They will never forget that they couldn’t wake her up, and Reuben will never forget that he couldn’t save her. I knew I had to do something for these boys. Now they are my priority.”
After the death of their mother, the life of the three sons of Carrie became very difficult.
They mourn the untimely death of their mother while sharing a small 10×12 foot bedroom with a bunk bed.
There is only one bathroom, and Grandma Lynn was forced to do laundry and ironing in a wooden shed due to lack of space.
Their grandfather Stephen takes care of the boys and Lynn works as a paramedic.
But today the DIY SOS team came to the rescue and refurbished the junk to include bedrooms for all the boys, another bathroom, and a HUGE kitchen and living room.
The brothers were shocked when they were shown their new home and called it “their dream home”.
Their cute reaction was too strong for the audience, who ended up crying.
One fan said, “I don’t cry, you cry! So touching!
While another tweeted: “Wow, #DIYSOS has taken me back in years more than any other program. Always tears of joy because they are an amazing team. What a wonderful family and community tonight.”
This spectator was too much: “I am sad! What a touching story and such lovely boys! They deserve this beautiful home. I hope he brings them comfort after losing their mother.”
DIY SOS continues next Monday at 21:00 on BBC One.
