Don Lemon, Poppy Harlow and Caitlan Collins will host CNN’s new morning show, set to debut later this year with a new title, format and set of options.
The revamped show has been a top priority for CNN Chairman and CEO Chris Licht, who launched in May.
Lemon will end his night Don Lemon tonight to host a new morning show. Harlow will start a few hours early from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to join the show, and Collins, who was the network’s chief White House correspondent, will be the program’s co-anchor and chief correspondent.
John Berman and Brianna Keilar, hosts of A New Day, will take on new roles on the network, CNN reports.
“There is no stronger combination of talent than Don, Poppy and Caitlan to deliver on our promise to be a game changer on the morning news program,” Licht said in a statement. “Each of them is smart, reliable and attractive in his own way; together they have a rare and palpable chemistry. Combined with CNN’s resources and news gathering capabilities, we’ll offer a smart, bold, and refreshing way to start the day.”
Licht helped develop Morning Joe as its founding executive producer, making it an influential show for Beltway and New York insiders with a more casual but more newsy format than the broadcast network’s morning shows. He then brought some of those ideas to life on CBS’s This Morning before leaving to helm Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
CNN has gone through a series of changes in recent weeks that have led to speculation about the future of some of its on-air personalities. Lemon, who has hosted his prime-time show since 2014, was a frequent target of Donald Trump’s allies during his presidency, but has recently come to play a major role in breaking news coverage, including ceremonies honoring Queen Elizabeth this week in Edinburgh and London.
Lemon’s exit from CNN’s primetime lineup means there will be an even bigger hole in the network to fill, with a rotating series of hosts already appearing at 9pm ET with cnn tonightwhich replaced The Chris Cuomo Show after he was fired.
