Former NFL player Kevin Ware Jr. reportedly killed his girlfriend and burned her remains, and is now facing murder and tampering charges after he left her body so burned that it took authorities a year to identify her.
Ware, who previously played for the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Commanders, was initially interested in having his girlfriend, 29-year-old Taylor Pomaski, go missing as early as April 2021, according to Houston Chronicle.
After a wide-ranging search, her remains were found eight months later in December in a ditch in Harris County, Texas that police said had been badly burned.
Ware and her friend were last seen together in a heated argument at a party before she went missing.
Pomaski was last seen at a party thrown at her Texas home with Ware, 41, where witnesses said the two had a heated argument. According to the Chronicle, no one else saw or heard from her.

According to Fox 5 New York, her body was not positively identified until April 2022, a year after the discovery and nearly two years after she disappeared.
In June, Ware was arrested by the U.S. Marshals for an alleged bail violation, and a month later, a Harris County grand jury charged him with murder and falsifying evidence of Pomaski’s death.
He was transferred this week from Montgomery County to the Harris County Jail.
Ware is due in court on September 26. Prosecutors have asked for his bail to be set at $1 million, but as of Friday, no decision has been made regarding any release on bail.
He faces 15 years to life in prison if proven guilty.

In 2002, while a student at the University of Washington, Ware pleaded guilty to assault and received a suspended sentence. Chronicle of San Francisco.
In 2010, he was charged with two separate incidents in Houston: theft and evading arrest following an assault, Chronicle reports.
Then, in December 2018, Ware was sentenced to two years in prison for intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, a first-degree felony.
On April 19, 2021, the same month his girlfriend went missing, Ware was pulled over for speeding in Magnolia, Texas, a search of the car found cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, and Xanax, along with a loaded AK-47 and a loaded 9mm pistol.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and illegal possession of a firearm as a felon, which is a third-degree felony in Texas.
Ware was released from jail the next day after posting $23,000 bail. Montgomery County Police Reporter.
The former NFL tight end played 11 games for the Washington Redskins in 2003 and five games for the San Francisco 49ers in 2004 before being dropped from the league in September of that year.
In total, he played 16 games as a professional football player and had four receptions and 26 receiving yards during his time in the NFL.
