One of her videos, uploaded back in November, garnered nearly 3 million views. TikTok was created in a shop located in a rural part of Alaska. The woman was filming various food products and showing their prices. People were soon surprised to see how expensive groceries are in Alaska: milk costs $18 there, cheese costs about $25, and these are just a few examples of how high food prices are in Alaska.

The video caught the attention of many people as people were curious to know how much Alaska residents must earn to be able to buy food. The woman then uploaded a follow-up video advertising McDonald’s work saying her hourly wage was $12.50. This sparked an even bigger debate on how people spend things at this place.

After much fascination with the subject, Emily decided to make another video at a shop located in Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska. Prices here were much lower than those offered in rural parts of Alaska. The woman said: “If you can travel to Anchorage or Fairbanks, the prices are much more reasonable.”

Emily did a follow-up video where she explained that the best way out of this situation is to move to bigger cities where prices are lower.

The reason why groceries are so expensive in these non-urban areas is that it is difficult to bring them to these places. In the video, the woman mentions that planes and boats are needed to provide these products in rural areas. Despite being able to explain this difference, it certainly causes trouble for the residents who live there.
