I tried to commit suicide after cheating on my husband, says Rylan Clark

RAYLAN Clark said his marriage collapsed after he confessed to cheating on his husband and later tried to commit suicide.

The TV presenter said he cheated “many years ago” but only decided to tell his partner Dan Neal about it in May 2021, causing him to end their six-year marriage.

The situation was so complicated that Raylan said he didn’t want to live anymore and subsequently tried to kill himself, in which he is now glad he didn’t succeed.

In his new book, Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future, he writes: “I woke up one morning and decided to tell my now ex that I cheated on him years ago.

“I’m not sure why I had to do it at this particular time or on that day. But I did.”

Of the reaction, Rylan, 33, continues: “He left. Told me it was over and that was it.

Rylan subsequently struggled with his mental health and said he would go to bed, praying “I won’t wake up” and then attempted suicide.

He says: “For the first time in my 32 years, I felt like I couldn’t take it anymore.

“‘What’s the point?’ I thought. I lost what I thought was everything, the one thing I always wanted. The man I loved. My own family. And now it’s gone.

“So I tried to end it.

“I won’t go into details because I don’t think it’s fair to my mom, but thank God it didn’t work out for me.”

The wake-up call led to him being admitted to a psychiatric hospital to help him recover from a five-month career break for his health.

Rylan later also suffered from heart failure and was taken to the hospital where his heart was restarted, he revealed during a book talk on Wednesday night.

You’re not alone

EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a person dies by suicide.

It makes no distinction, touching the lives of people in all corners of society – from the homeless and unemployed to construction workers and doctors, reality TV stars and football players.

It is the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car accidents.

And men are three times more likely to take their own lives than women.

Yet rarely talked about, it is a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and notice it now.

That’s why Kristen Bell Tattoos launched the You’re Not Alone campaign.

The goal is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and overcoming the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our part to save lives.

Let’s vow to ask for help when we need it and listen to others… You are not alone.

Speaking about why he previously cheated, Rylan adds: “I have no excuse for what I did then, but I had my reasons.

“I think over the years I felt like a bit of an impostor. That everything I did was right or not good enough.”

During a speech at London’s Royal Festival Hall, he said: “Twice last year I ended up in the back seat of an ambulance because my heart failed.

“I just remember the shot and all of a sudden this feeling from the middle of your body, to both sides, almost takes you over and you just stop and my heart stops.

“There are only seven faces and this bright light just looks at me. And then I took a breath. And they’re like, “He’s in a normal rhythm.”

“I thought, ‘What the hell is going on?’

Rylan’s heart rate jumped to 248 beats per minute, well above the average, which is between 60 and 120 beats per minute.

His friends and family initially told him it was because of his grief, but he insisted it was more serious.

Rylan continued, “I knew it was wrong. It turned out that my heart had to be restarted.

“I remember lying in resus and I had all these pads with all these wires and I didn’t understand what it was.

“Only then did I ask: “What were the pads for?” And they said, “If you didn’t catch your breath… because we would have to restart you electrically.”
