FORMER Star of Love Island Shona Phillips spoke about her “nasty” experience on an ITV show.
Shonna, 26, starred in Winter Love Island in 2020 and revealed the show’s deepest secrets, saying it felt like “war to war.”
She called one of her favorite challenges “the most disgusting” and told how she cried all day before she had to do it.
Every season, the islanders have their heart rates monitored while they dance sexy dances for each other, but they have no say in what they wear.
Shauna was devastated to learn that she had to wear a skimpy outfit and also stated that the results were corrected anyway.
“I cried from lunch until the minute I left [to dance]Shauna said on the Should I Delete This podcast.
“I told them [show producers]“I will go out naked with tassels on my nipples if you give me pants, tights or thigh high boots. I will do everything what you want”.
“And I was the only girl who didn’t have any of that. I told them, “I can just walk. I can’t do this.”
She describes the process as “sneaky”, saying she begged the producers not to force her to wear a revealing outfit: “I cried, I said, ‘Please, you don’t understand. Please.’
“I really struggled with swollen feet because [of] there are different heights [South Africa]. I cried because I felt bad, I cried because I was ashamed.”
Shauna also believes that the heart rate monitor results have been “corrected” to suit the storyline.
Callum Jones dumped her for model Molly Smith during Casa Amor.
“I think it was set up. The contest said that mine went for Callum, and obviously it would be better if mine went for Callum and Callum didn’t. [up] for me, but I don’t think mine went for it. I’m sure someone else got mine,” Shanna said.
“Even though I know or think it’s not true, back then the whole country was watching me look like a jerk. I just felt like a donut.”
On Love Island itself, she said it felt like “work” and a far cry from the all-inclusive vacation she envisioned: “You get four or five hours of sleep, if anything. There are scenes where I take a glass of wine and steam comes out of it because it contains tea. I’m just trying to stay awake.”
Shonna, who served on the Lambeth council in London before she rose to fame on the ITV2 dating show, also shared a bizarre detail about the dancing.
She said that real music doesn’t play, and if there is, it’s a random song that we don’t hear on the real show.
“Music for slow-mo does not play. All you can hear is our feet hitting the floor,” Shona explained.
“This is the most inconvenient time. Or they’ll play music, but it’s like… you can’t sing [along to] because different music will be put on it [in the edit]so we literally had this trick where we put ice in our mouths…to stop us from singing.”
Taking the lid off the reunion speeches, she says that they take “hours” and that the members discuss what they’re going to say with the producer ahead of time.
“Usually you don’t have to redo… if it’s something very dramatic, then obviously they can’t redo it,” Shonna said.
“But when you do, for example, “I would like to connect with this person because…”, you do it in three parts.
“So you say that and then you have a big pause, then you say the next beat, pause.”
The reality TV star “nearly passed out” for eating so little and going to the gym before entering the villa.
She says preparing to move to the villa was like “preparing for war” and that she ate so little and worked out so hard at the gym that she “almost passed out.”
“I literally went to the gym and almost passed out so I had to eat more to get to this point so I was in a healthier situation when Love Island came along but obviously when it happened it was then. like all systems,” Shona said.
“I went to the gym maybe five or six times a week. But now I’m in a position where when I go to the gym, I try to look at it as a treat for myself, like it’s your time, just go and enjoy it, whereas back then it was like do or die.”
