Although they often appeared as a united front with their royal consorts, rumors soon spread of a rivalry between the two women. In 2018, reports surfaced of a tumultuous exchange ahead of Meghan and Harry’s wedding, alleging that the founder of Tig left Kate in tears over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress. Nearly three years later, Meghan addressed the alleged incident.
“The opposite happened,” she said in her first major TV interview with Harry since their resignation from royal duties became permanent in February 2021. “A few days before the wedding, she was upset about the flower girl dresses and it makes me cry. It really hurt my feelings.”
Although Meghan admitted that it was “difficult to get over” the devastating “story” she was told, she was able to forgive Prince Williamwife. “She was upset about something, but admitted it and apologized,” Megan recalled then. “She brought me flowers and an apology note. And she did what I would have done if I knew that I was hurting someone – just took responsibility for it.
Throughout her time in the royal family, Meghan faced harsh criticism from the British tabloids, who she said “seemed to really want a story about hero and villain”. Despite how he and Kate have been portrayed in the public eye, the philanthropist doesn’t think they should be pitted against each other.
“I think a lot of what I’ve seen is the idea of polarity where if you love me you don’t have to hate her,” Meghan said during an interview that aired in March 2021. “And if you love her, you don’t have to hate me.”
