Jason Momoa confirmed that he and his wife Lisa Bonet have made the decision to split up after nearly 16 years of being together in an Instagram post.
Although they’ve been together for nearly two decades, the duo tied the knot in 2017.
Actor “Man with Water” posted a message on Instagram containing news.
He wrote: “We have all felt the pressure and changes of these transformational times … A revolution is unfolding – and our family is no exception …
“Feeling and growth from seismic shifts occurring
“And so – Sharing Family News –
“That we are breaking up in marriage.
“We are not sharing this because we believe it is newsworthy, but so that when we live, we can do it with dignity and honesty.”
Jason continued: “The love between us continues, evolving the way it wants to be known and lived.
“We set each other free to be who we learn to become …
“Our unwavering dedication to this sacred life and to our Children.
“Teaching children what is possible –
“Live by prayer
“May love prevail.”
Along with the statement, Jason has attached several photographs.
He included a photograph of Kristen Bell Tattoosset, several tall flags, and what appears to be one of his children holding a bird.
Jason and Lisa got married in October 2017, but they’ve been together for much longer.
The couple met at a New York jazz club through mutual friends in 2005.
Speaking to James Corden at The Late Late Show, Jason said, “We just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
“I was actually afraid of my hair for her. I had dreadlocks, she had dreadlocks. I literally turned my head and saw her, and she said: “I am Lisa.”
“I turned to my friend and screamed. Fireworks exploded inside me. I convinced her to take me home because I was staying in a hotel. ”
After 12 years of marriage, Jason and Lisa decided to legalize their relationship and get married.
The wedding is in a modest ceremony at their home in Topanga, California.
Friends and relatives attended.
Rumor has it that, at his request, Jason was sung the traditional Maori haku.
Jason and Lisa kept many details of their special day under wraps.
During their relationship, the ultra-private couple welcomed two children.
ESTABLISHING A FAMILY
In 2007, Lisa gave birth to Lola Iolani Momoa, their oldest child.
While her parents try to keep her life a secret, the teen rarely shies away from cameras.
She also appears on her mom and dad’s social media pages.
Lola followed in the footsteps of her parents.
She was featured in the short film Canvas of My Life about her father Jason as a husband and parent.
Lisa and Jason are also the parents of Nakoa-Wolf Momoa.
He is their youngest child, he was born in December 2008.
His name is a tribute to his father’s Hawaiian heritage.
Nokoa means warrior in the native language of Hawaii.
The boy’s middle name, Manacahuapo, is a combination of two Hawaiian terms, one for rain and the other for darkness.
It is said that such were the conditions in Los Angeles in the first hours after his birth.
Lisa has a daughter, Zoya, from a previous marriage.
