Comedian Jethro has died at the age of 73 after suffering from covid.

Millions of devastated fans have paid tribute to the Cornish comic, real name Geoffrey Rowe, who died on Tuesday.

His management said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of renowned and popular Cornish comedian Jethro.

“Sadly, Jethro passed away on 14 December 2021 after contracting COVID-19.

“Jethro leaves behind his life partner Jenny, sons Jesse and Lanyon, stepdaughter Sarah, daughter-in-law Stacy and of course his very dear grandchildren.

“We ask that you respect our privacy at this sad time and give us all the time to grieve.

“We will continue to support each other in the knowledge that without him our lives will never be the same.”

Jethro rose to fame in the 1990s after appearing on The Des O’Connor Show and became known for his West Country Take on Life.

He also appeared in TV’s Treasure Hunt and Jim Davidson’s Generation Game.

Paying tribute to the star, one person said on Twitter: “RIP Jethro. Not only a Cornish legend, but a great comedian around the world.”

Another posted: “Oh man, how sad, the best stand up comedian ever in the West Country.

“I’ve seen Jethro so many times. He was fantastic, a top guy, such unique delivery, incredibly funny.

“They don’t make them like him anymore, a sad day.”
