By the time fans recognized Johnny Galecki as Leonard, he had been playing professionally for many years. As a child, he told people that he wanted to be either an actor or a witch when he grew up (via Behind the brand). His parents didn’t see it (an acting career, that is) and tried to encourage other interests. “But I was very, very stubborn,” Galecki recalled. Then he saw 8-year-old Ricky Schroeder in The Champion and realized that this was a career he could start right now. And he did, getting into the theater, hiring an agent and moving to Los Angeles.
Throughout the 1980s, he appeared in television films and feature films, including the 1989 film National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. During the 1990s, he starred in TV series including American Dreamer from 1990 to 1991, Flower in 1991 and Billy in 1992. such an acquaintance probably remembered him best from Roseanne. On this long-running sitcom, he played Darlene’s (Sarah Gilbert’s) boyfriend, David, from 1992 to 1997.
However, for all of his success, Galecki had effectively stopped acting by the time The Big Bang Theory was in development. “My career has not been smooth sailing,” he said. Entertainment tonight. “Just before the Big Bang, I was in Wisconsin studying plumbing.”
