The 28-year-old man explained that it is caused by a virus that “infects the nerve in my ear and the facial nerves and causes paralysis in my face.” Justin demonstrated the effect of the syndrome by smiling and blinking, showing his 240 million followers that the right side of his face was not moving.

“This is pretty serious, as you can see. I wish it wasn’t, but apparently my body is telling me to slow down,” he said. “I hope you understand. I use this time to just rest, relax and come back 100% so I can do what I was born to do.”

Justin added that he does facial exercises to “get back to normal” but doesn’t know how long it will take to recover.

It’s unclear how long it will take for a full recovery or if a 100% recovery is possible, but Justin is doing his best.

He asked his fans to be patient and in the video caption he asked them to pray for him. Justin ended the video by saying that he loves his fans and believes in God that “it’s all for a reason”, although he may not know what the reason is at the moment.

His latest Instagram story at the time of writing stated that Justin was struggling to eat. It said, “Eating is becoming increasingly difficult, which is very frustrating, please pray for me.” [tearing up emoji]”.

According to Rare Disease Database, Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome (RHR) is a rare neurological disorder characterized by facial paralysis and a rash that affects the ear or mouth. Ear abnormalities such as tinnitus (tinnitus) and hearing loss may also be present.

The syndrome is caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), the same virus that causes chickenpox in children and shingles in adults, in which the previously dormant virus reactivates and spreads to the facial nerve.

As noted Mayo ClinicThe two main symptoms of RHS are a painful red rash with fluid-filled blisters on, in, and around one ear, and facial weakness or paralysis on the same side as the affected ear.

FacialPalsy.org explains that if antiviral treatment is given within 72 hours of the onset of symptoms, approximately 70 percent of people will recover completely, and if the nerve damage is mild, then recovery should occur within a few weeks.

RHS affects men and women equally, and one estimate is that 5 out of every 100,000 people develop RHS each year in the United States. The disorder is the second most common cause of atraumatic flaccid facial paralysis. Anyone who has had chickenpox has the potential to develop Ramsay Hunt syndrome, experts say.

If antiviral treatment is given within 72 hours of symptom onset, approximately 70% of people make a full recovery.

This isn’t the first medical complication the Bieber family has faced this year, as Justin’s wife Hailey was hospitalized with a brain clot back in March.

She later revealed that she had symptoms similar to a stroke. Instagram story: “I was at breakfast with my husband on Thursday morning when I started having stroke-like symptoms and was taken to the hospital.”

“They found that I had a very small clot in my brain that caused a slight lack of oxygen, but my body cleared up on its own and I made a full recovery within a few hours.”

She added: “While it was definitely one of the scariest moments I have ever experienced, I am now home and feeling great and I am so grateful to all the wonderful doctors and nurses who have taken care of me! Thank you to everyone who reached out to us with good wishes and care, as well as for all the support and love.”

Close sources told People that Justin was “probably more traumatized” than Hailey herself. “When it happened, there was a big panic. Justin was crying because you don’t expect your young wife to have stroke-like symptoms. Justin wrote to everyone he knew and asked everyone to pray for her and he never left her side,” the person said.

We hope for the best for the couple and that Justin’s recovery is quick and uncomplicated.
