Louise Redknapp on being voted the sexiest woman of the 90s… and the truth behind THAT daring Daisy Lowe rumors

GIRLBAND darling Louise Redknapp was a pop princess who turned into one of the hottest sex symbols of the 90s and was even crowned sexiest woman of the DECADE.

Having gone from band member to solo star to Wag and then back as a stern favorite, Louise, now 47, opened up about suddenly discovering her sensual side.

Louise Nurding, as she was then, told Kristen Bell Tattoos in 1996: “I need to explore other possibilities and reach out to all kinds of people.

“If you’re sexy, it should come out no matter what you’re wearing – you don’t have to put on a bra and the smallest panties you can find.”

Louise has come a long way since her childhood in Lewisham, South East London, where she received a scholarship to drama school.

At the age of 15, she met a music producer while going to a club with her childhood friend Kelle Brian.

They then teamed up with sisters Easter and Vernie Bennett to form the girl group Eternal in 1992.

Starting two years before the Spice Girls, they immediately became Britain’s favorite girl group.

On paper, Eternal had it all — a multi-platinum-selling album, four Brit Awards nominations, and an award for best band at the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party.

But behind the scenes, Louise was unhappy with her pop star life. In 1995, she made the shocking decision to leave the group after they had only recorded one album.

Rumors circulated that American radio stations would not accept the mixed-race group, forcing her to leave the group, but Louise claimed it was a personal decision.

She said: “Suddenly we were selling millions of records, touring the world – and I was just miserable.

“Everyone thinks it’s all showbiz parties, but I was 20 and I was sitting in hotel rooms by myself. All I knew was that I couldn’t continue being miserable and homesick.

“My passion for singing and music was dying. That’s why I left.”

By that time, she had already fallen in love with Liverpool and England football player Jamie Redknapp.

They were introduced on a Bermuda beach a year earlier by Robbie Williams, who was then the opening act for Take That for Eternal.

But a stunned Louise later admitted that she didn’t realize Jamie was a professional soccer player until she saw him play on TV.

She said: “I had no idea who he was when I met him. A few weeks later I was watching England on TV and I said to my friends, “I know this guy – he asked me out on a date.”

So miserable

“They said, ‘Don’t you know who he is?’ I just thought that every man you meet says he plays football.”

Even though they hit it off, the couple remained just friends in the early days.
Louise told FHM magazine in 1996, “I’ve never dated a man I didn’t know before.

“I’m not one of those people who can just talk about it. I prefer to wait until I meet someone I really like rather than just say, “God, I really need this now.”

But slowly, the couple got married in 1998 – just a week after Jamie proposed.

In her 2021 memoir You’ve Got It, Louise recalled, “We were sitting in his room and he said to me, ‘I think we should probably get married then.’

“It wasn’t the most romantic proposal and I think we even had a stupid fight after that when I told him that he shouldn’t have proposed just because he felt it was the right thing to do.

“I mean, only I could accept an offer like that. But we were happy and the wheels were set in motion so we could tie the knot.”

During their wedding – in Bermuda, in a “modest” ceremony with 30 guests on an 80-foot yacht – Louise’s solo career was firmly established, with six top ten hits.

When Jamie's career took off, and later when he became a television football pundit, Louise admitted that she played second fiddle in the relationship.

Then, in 2004 – the year FHM voted her the Sexiest Woman of the Decade – Louise gave birth to eldest son Charlie, now 17, and later Bo, now 13, and took a step back in her pop career.

When Jamie’s career took off, and later when he became a television football pundit, Louise admitted that she played second fiddle in the relationship.

She said: “I wouldn’t give up my time away from the limelight for all the money in the world.

“But it’s hard when you’re married to someone with a very successful career and you have kids to have everything.

“Something has to give away somewhere, and I think that I gave it away. You feel comfortable and stop chasing your dream a little.”

The couple soon gained a reputation as the toughest couple in show business, and in 2012, Louise said, “I remind myself that I’m lucky that if you strip everything, celebrity, fame, and see what’s left, we have a good relationship.

“We are friends. Everything else is not sustainable.”

If you’re sexy, it should show up no matter what you’re wearing—you don’t have to wear a bra and little panties.

But in private, Louise began to struggle with self-doubt.

In her autobiography, she said, “It was probably at this point that my insecurities that I wasn’t good enough began to intensify.

“Wherever we went, charming and gorgeous women tried to get Jamie’s attention. They came up to him in clubs, hair tossing, all in high heels and tight dresses.

“It was like I was invisible to these women, or maybe they just didn’t care. I started to feel even less confident in myself and what I had to offer Jamie.”

Everything changed in 2016 when she took part in the program “Dancing with the Stars”, impressing the audience with her performances and taking second place.

She also sparked chatter after getting close with fellow member Daisy Lowe at night, and said, “I’ve been going out more often than ever. I found a spark.

“I enjoyed myself. I guess I was always such a well-bred pop star, and then I got married, had children and abstained from acting.

“But I remember reading headlines like ‘Louise in town drunk again’ when I knew I was home at 9:30 p.m. sitting with my son and drinking a bowl of Frosty.

“Daisy was never my girlfriend throughout Strictly!”
She added: “Strictly turned the lights back on.”

She started working again, playing a role in the stage show Cabaret alongside Will Young.

After the series, she returned home to Jamie a changed woman and asked for a divorce.

She said: “For 21 years I have been in a secure marriage despite the good times and the bad. Many of these 21 years have been incredible. And in those 21 years, there were moments when I was sad – not because of Jamie, mostly because of me.

The couple divorced in December 2017 and in her bio, Louise admitted that she would like to do more to save the marriage.

She wrote: “I wish I could try. I want to say to everyone who is thinking about running: “Just slow down.” Don’t run.” Because once you run too fast, you can’t catch up.”

Louise thanks her sons for helping her get through her divorce.

She said on The One Show, “I’ve been going through some tough times and I’ve really learned that sometimes you have to be broad-shouldered in life.

“Surround yourself with good people, keep your head up high and just keep going. My boys were an absolute lifesaver – and so was my mom.”

In 2019, Jamie met Swedish model Frida Andersson-Luri, and last year they got married shortly before the birth of their son Raphael.

Louise was left alone and said, “I’m the worst mom in school.

“When I’m not working, I like to make no effort. So I show up in tracksuit pants, an oversized sweatshirt, with my hair in a ponytail.”

And her old pin-up photo is locked up. Two years ago, she said, “Do you think my 15-year-old would let me hang my old FHM covers on the wall? No. They are all in a box in the garage.

However, she does not rule out a new relationship. She said, “No one is calling me to ask me out, but who knows? At this point, I just don’t know if it will ever happen.

“If it happens, I will be honest, open and accept it. But the last word belongs to my children.”
