On September 16, 2022, DC fans around the world rejoiced at the news that Constantine — a nearly 20-year-old film starring Keanu Reeves as comic book favorite John Constantine — is finally getting a sequel. On the other hand, some members of the fandom were much less enthusiastic about other news. After spending over a year in development, JJ Abrams and Angela Robinson’s Madame X was put on ice by the authorities. The same fate befell Abrams’ television series dedicated to John Constantine, which was also planned to premiere on HBO Max in the future.
This may sound bad, and to some extent it is, but there is a positive side to all this bad news. AT Diversity The situation report notes that Warner Bros. Television and Abrams’ company, Bad Robot Productions, still sees great potential in both Madame X and Constantine. So both programs are selling out in the hope that they can find a new home elsewhere on the small screen. Time will tell how successful these efforts will be, so if you’re interested in one or both of these projects, now is the time to cross your fingers and hope for the best.
Once again, it seems like Madame Xanadu has missed her chance to be a superstar on the air. We’ll have to wait and see how things play out in the coming months while Madame X looks for a new path to release.
