Vaccine efficacy and Omicron
Expert studies have shown that the risk of severe illness from Covid-19 is reduced by 90 percent or more among people who are fully vaccinated.
Although there are serious cases of Covid among vaccinated people, they are rare.
In the event of a breakout, victims are unlikely to be hospitalized with severe or fatal symptoms of the virus.
Health officials said the Omicron variant is more contagious and could lead to more breakout cases.
However, the spread can be compensated for by re-vaccinating all vaccinated Americans.
Modern vaccines are expected to protect against severe illness, hospitalization and death due to infection with the Omicron variant.
With other options, such as Delta, vaccines remain effective in preventing serious illness, hospitalization, and death.
Research has also shown that vaccine side effects are extremely rare.
