During a speech at “Happy Sad Confused” podcastTom Hanks revealed that Marvel Studios never asked him to star in one of their movies or TV shows. The actor responded to a comment claiming that Marvel must have contacted him at some point, saying, “No, as far as I know, no. I dont know”. The Toy Story and Forrest Gump star then remarked that despite not having been contacted by Marvel yet, he would be interested in playing a role in the MCU.
Hanks made his point by comparing the current dominance of the superhero genre in Hollywood to the popularity of the western genre in the mid-1900s, and in particular to the westerns made by The Searchers and Stagecoach director John Ford. “Perhaps you can say that the John Ford Western universe is perhaps not that different from the Marvel movie universe,” said Hanks. The actor went on to ask, “If it was a cheeky John Ford Western, would you do it?” Moments later, Hanks answered his own question by saying, “You can do it.”
Expressing his interest in the MCU, Hanks briefly praised the superhero franchise, admitting, “Look, I haven’t seen [every MCU movie]. I’ll give it to you right now, but from the ones I’ve seen I’ve never left [them] without thinking, “There are a couple of great performances there.” Man, these people really gave it their all.”
In other words, it looks like Hanks is completely open to joining the MCU at some point in the future. Whether he will ever do so remains to be seen. At the moment, there are many upcoming Marvel projects that MCU fans can look forward to in the coming months and years.
