Looking for lasting love. 90 day fiance has been captivating audiences since its premiere in 2014, and has more success stories than audiences might think.
The TLC reality show, which aired its seventh season in early 2020, follows promising couples who have applied for or received a K-1 visa and must marry within 90 days to stay in the United States. Many duos meet by chance during exotic travels, while others spend months chatting with their future spouses online before finally meeting in person.
90 day fiance spawned a popular online franchise, expanding its universe with spin-offs such as 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?, Groom for 90 days: up to 90 days and more. In April 2020, TLC debuted. 90 Day Fiancé: Self Isolationwhich follows the married couples from the original series adjusting to living together in lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic.
When the executive producer Matt Sharp after first coming up with the concept of a reality dating show, he was shocked at how “common” the topic was.
“There were people from all walks of life and all states who started talking to people online and fell in love,” he recalled. The most interesting for us was the process of obtaining a K-1 visa. … As soon as they touch US soil, the clock is ticking.”
Alon Orsteinsenior vice president of development and production at TLC, immediately thought the show was “perfect” for his network.
“It fired us up right away,” he said. Glamor. “It was authentic. It was not a fabricated reality. These were the people who were already connected. They may not know each other very well, but they met on their own and come from different walks of life, cultures and religions.”
While some couples from the original series never found their happy endings, others settled in the United States and started families of their own. October 2019 Lauren as well as Alexey Brovarnikwho appeared in Season 3 in 2015, exclusively narrated Us weekly that they are expecting their first child together. Lauren admitted at the time that she felt “excited, scared, over the moon, nervous and more.” Their son Shai was born in April 2020.
