Fatal novel. Prince Charles as well as Duchess Camilla endured a very public scandal before becoming the official royal couple.
Charles was under scrutiny as heir to his mother Queen Elizabeth II when he met Camilla (née Shand) in 1970. The couple dated before the prince was in the Royal Navy. When he returned home, she was engaged to Andrew Parker Bowles.
Camilla married Parker Bowles in 1973 and they had two children: a son Volume in 1974 and daughter Laura in 1978.
When Camilla left, Charles followed suit, tying the knot with Princess Diana in 1981. Their sons, Prince William as well as Prince Harryarrived in 1982 and 1984 respectively.
Charles and Camilla eventually began dating while still married to Diana and Parker Bowles respectively. After the divorce, they went public with their relationship, although it was years before the romance received royal approval.

The couple tied the knot in 2005 and she took on the role of a working member of the royal family.

Of course, since Charles is first in line to the British throne, he and Camilla always carry some weight. Although they have had over a decade to think about what will happen when Charles ascends to the throne, her son Tom stated in April 2021 that the royals had not yet decided on a title for Camilla.

“When the time comes, my son Charles will become king, I know that you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support as you gave me,” the monarch shared at the time in a statement. “And I sincerely wish that when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her faithful service.”
Following the Queen’s death in September 2022, both Charles and Camilla assumed their new titles.
