Queen Elizabeth II didn’t hesitate to name her favorite TV show

According to BBCQueen Elizabeth II is said to have had an outstanding sense of humor, including a penchant for finding comedy in the everyday absurdities of life. Many of these humorous qualities can be found in situation comedy, including The Kumars at Number 42 which aired on the BBC from 2001 to 2006 and again in 2014 for a revival. The series retained the talk show format in which Sanjeev Kumar (Sanjeev Bhaskar), along with his eccentric family, interviewed real celebrities, which eventually led to wacky jokes based on the mood of the discussion (according to IMDb).

In an article for New statesman, veteran BBC 2 radio presenter Phil Jones recalled an encounter he had with the Queen at Buckingham Palace in 2001. Jones asked Queen Elizabeth what her favorite TV program was and said, “Immediately she said, ‘The Kumars are number 42’ and, even more startlingly, continued to read some of the grandma wisecracks played by the brilliant Mira Sial.” The journalist was taken aback by her choice and added, “But why was I so surprised? Her favorite program was about an Asian immigrant family who settled in the UK. humor.”

This sense of humour, along with her tireless charitable work over the decades and her commitment to her duties as head of state, will forever be remembered.
