Quinta Brunson says she wasn’t bothered by her moment on stage with Jimmy Kimmel at the Emmys

Last night, Quinta Brunson stepped on the Emmy stage to accept her award for Writing a Comedy Seriesand was presented by Jimmy Kimmel. As she gave her acceptance speech, Jimmy stood on the floor, which some people didn’t like.

After the win, Quinta spoke to the media backstage, and when asked about the moment with Jimmy, she shared that she wasn’t really bothered by his actions, despite what some people said.

She is said,

“This snippet didn’t bother me much, I don’t know what the Internet thinks, but I know it. To be honest, Jimmy gave me my first big night spot and was one of the first people to see Abbott. He wrote to me on Instagram that he saw this comedy and considers it one of the greatest comedies of all time. He was so excited that it was going to be on ABC, so I think at that point I was just really happy that Jimmy was there. I consider him one of the godfathers of comedy, so I was consumed by the moment.”

Quinta went on to say that she would be at his show on Wednesday and joked that she might punch him in the face.

As previously reported, fans took to social media to share how upset they were because they felt like the moment was supposed to be about Kinta, but felt that Jimmy took that moment away from her.

Back in July, when the Emmy Award nominations were announced, Quinta Brunson made history by becoming the first black woman to receive three Emmy Award nominations within the same year. She was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, Lead Comedy Actressas well as Writing a Comedy Series.

Her “abbot elementary” co-star Sheryl Lee Ralph also walked away victorious, taking home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, this is her first Emmy Award.
