Dazed Rebecca Vardy today talks about the moment she confronted Colin Rooney over her shocking Wagata Christie post, yelling “Colin, what the fuck is this?”
The devastated star was on vacation in Dubai when she saw her buddy accuse her of leaking stories in a message ending with a bomb: “This. . . Rebecca Vardy account.
Today, Rebecca talks about the insults she still receives from her Wagat Christie libel battle with Colleen, saying: “People walk past me on the street and say, ‘You’re disgusting, rat, troll.’
The mother-of-five says she receives up to 100 threatening messages a day and has had to tighten her security measures.
Speaking for the first time since a High Court verdict cost her millions last Friday, she admits: “I felt sick.”
Becky, 40, married to Englishman and Leicester City striker Jamie, 35, was shocked when Ms Judge Stein called her testimony “clearly inconsistent…. . evasive or implausible.”
The judge described rival Colin’s testimony as “honest and reliable.” For Becky, it was a kick in the teeth – and the floodgates were opened again for the stinging trolls.
She added: “The whole thing was terrible. At worst, I was afraid to be alone, to leave the house. I was afraid to be in public places.
“Even the smallest things, like going shopping, were terrible.
“People look at me when I leave the house, and I had a strange person talking all sorts of nonsense.
“Everyone always says, ‘These people don’t say anything to your face,’ but there are actually some weird people out there who are doing their best.
“People walk by and call me names behind my back. I thought it would eventually settle down, go away, but it didn’t. It got worse and worse.”
Wiping away a tear, she adds, “The abuse I received was insane. At first it would be 100 posts per day.
“They even sent me letters at home, and they sent some crazy crap, including letters from psychics.
“I was connected to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, people who suggested that I was a member of IS, and the like.
“Like I killed someone. Every time something happened it was my fault, every time something new happened it was my fault.
“It’s really hard because you can give advice, but really, when you have to follow your own advice, it’s completely different.
“Jamie and everyone was like, ‘Just don’t read this. These are people who simply have nothing to do in life.
“But my line is that when you involve my family in something, when you expose my children to such vicious and disgusting hatred, it gets my attention and hurts me.
“I received death threats, rape threats, just about everything.
“These are holes, really.
“Then I went to a football match, and these chants were sung about me.
“There was a moment when I had to stop taking the kids to watch their father play football because it was awful.
“I was devastated and it’s really hard to talk about it.
The insults I received were insane. At first it would be 100 posts per day. They even sent me letters at home, and they sent some crazy crap, including letters from psychics.
“As a mom, all you want to do is keep your kids out of all this shit, and sometimes that just can’t be done.”
After such unimaginable violence, Becky had to increase her personal security, including a video surveillance system and a full-time security chief.
He greeted me politely on the grounds of the couple’s £3 million home in Leicestershire.
According to her, the police also intervened in the case, and several keyboard warriors were arrested.
Becky said: “The police tracked down several of these people and I received several letters of apology.
– Everything is fine. But you don’t say anything like that and you just say, ‘Oh, I’m sorry’ – you need help.”
October 9, 2019, by Becky’s own admission, is the day that shook the world of the former “I’m a Celebrity” star forever.
Becky and her family were vacationing in Dubai when she heard about a statement from ex-girlfriend Colleen accusing her of leaking stories to this newspaper, which famously ended with “This is……..Rebecca Vardy’s account.”
Caroline Watts, Becky’s then-manager, called to warn her Colleen was addicted to social media.
Becky said, “All of a sudden my phone exploded.
“I had a missed call from a hidden number, but then she (Colene) texted me and said: “I tried to reach you.”
“I picked up the phone, called her and basically said, ‘What the fuck?
“Her response was pretty rude, pretty blunt, and she just said, ‘You know what that is.’
“And at that moment, I really didn’t know what it was.
“It was like, ‘No, of course, that can’t be true; no one would do that.”
The police tracked down several of these people and I received several letters of apology. This is all well and good. But you don’t say anything like that and you just say, “Oh sorry” – you need help.
Colin, 36, who has hitherto seemed like a vanilla, decidedly inconspicuous prankster, married to former England captain Wayne since 2008, has been nicknamed “Wagata Christie” in deference to her super-search efforts to find the source of the leaks.
Colleen posted 50 stories on her personal Instagram account during her “special operation” between August and October 2019.
She wrote, “I have saved and screenshotted all of the original stories, which clearly show that only one person viewed them.”
So is there a part of Becky that, on some level, rather admires her rival’s amateur detective skills? Eh, no.
With sparkling eyes, she objects: “It’s all ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous, but everyone wants to talk about it, they want to have their own opinion.
“But what you can’t get rid of is the damage it has done and continues to do.
“It’s not a joke. This is my life. If the shoes were on the other foot, I would never do this to anyone.
“If I really thought so, I would be at their house, talking and understanding this correctly. It just felt like an army was sent against me.”
Both women received much criticism for taking this increasingly violent case to the High Court.
But after that, the warring duo continued to defend their truths, while spending about 3 million pounds in legal costs. Becky will not name the exact amount.
So she fully understands the public’s frustration? I understand and appreciate what people are saying that this was all a waste of time and a huge waste of money.
“Going to court was expensive. Legal services are expensive. But I didn’t have a choice.”
Becky insists that she didn’t leak the material and that Colleen drew the wrong conclusions.
She added, “I wanted to clear my name. Because I was accused of something that I did not do, and I was very worried about this.
“Yes, even now. I would do it all again tomorrow if I had to because I am innocent. I do not regret anything.”
Becky admits she’s going to “get shit” for talking to Kristen Bell Tattoos today after Colleen’s statements.
But such is her resolute insistence that she has done nothing wrong, and the strength of her conviction that she boldly refuses to be silent.
It was that kind of guts that made her a fan favorite on I’m a Celebrity in 2017, and she was seen gently pushing Georgia “Toff” Toffolo to eat a bull’s penis with immortal words, “Come on, you’re even worse than your mouth: I know that I know!
While Becky may seem like persona non grata right now, the offers keep coming.
She has four documentary deals on the table and will be meeting with production companies next week to plan her next move.
Despite Mae’s grueling seven-day trial, during which Becky was repeatedly driven to tears, making the viewing extremely uncomfortable, she admits she is considering an appeal.
She added: “It is in the hands of the lawyers.
“They are going to look at something, and I am sure that they will soon have a conversation, if it has not yet taken place between themselves.
“But it’s really difficult because I didn’t do it. I didn’t do it then; I didn’t do it yesterday, I didn’t do it when I was in court, and I still haven’t done it.
“I’m a fighter and it’s been very difficult for the last few years to keep pushing and pushing and pushing for the truth to be out there and to get justice.
“I don’t know, my stomach is fine.
“For now, we just have to let the dust settle and reconsider all the facts, and then we will see where we are.”
