In a moment that builds the show’s canon, Rick and Morty Season 6 Episode 1 includes a revelation by Jerry that ties into the plot of an episode that first aired a few years ago. In short, it is revealed that a version of Jerry, a native of the dimension in which most of the show takes place, has been replaced with a Jerry from another universe in Jerry’s multi-dimensional kindergarten called Jerryboree, introduced in the season 2 episode “Mortynight Run”.
As it turns out, Season 6, Episode 3 also includes Jerryboree in its post-credits tag. After his wife, Beth (Sarah Chalk), has an affair of dubious morals with his own clone, Jerry is also apparently interested in having fun with another version of himself. So he visits Jerryboree in that final scene, where he is turned down at the front desk due to a rule designed to prevent the very reason for his visit.
Justin Roiland emphasized the importance of such moments in an interview. Screen ranting, in which he compared his approach to Rick and Morty to that of most similar shows. “Their main focus is on comedy and jokes, jokes, jokes that we’re trying to do too, but we also have consequences and stakes and stuff that will change depending on the season,” he said. So Jerryboree’s continued inclusion is one such example of a plot point causing a ripple effect over several seasons.
