SAG Awards 2022 Nominations: Don’t Look Up, House of Gucci and King Richard nominated for Best Picture

The 2022 SAG nominees have been announced, and the awards overall have proved to be a clear harbinger of the upcoming Oscars.

Don’t Look Up Leading the Oscar? Lady Gaga is on her way to victory and will she fight Nicole Kidman?

The Screen Actors Guild Awards have announced their nominees ahead of the 2022 Show on February 28. New York Post reports.

In Film, nominees for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Film included Belfast, CODA, Don’t Look Up, House of Gucci and King Richard, with the owner of the Golden Globe Dog strength noticeably absent.

Lady Gaga won the Outstanding Leading Actress award – a surprise given the harsh reviews from critics – against Jessica Chastain, Olivia Colman, Jennifer Hudson and Nicole Kidman in this category.

Meanwhile, Javier Bardem, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andrew Garfield, Will Smith and Denzel Washington will compete for Outstanding Acting in a SAG Award.

Television will see several colleagues fighting for victory, for example Succession stars Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong are all nominated for Outstanding Male Actor in a Drama Series (alongside Billy Crudup and Lee Jong Jae).

The hit HBO show was also nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series Against The Handmaid’s Tale, Morning Show, Squid Game and Yellowstone

Succession star Sarah Snook will meet with Morning show co-stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon alongside Jung Ho Young and Elisabeth Moss in what will undoubtedly be an intense race for Best Actress in a Drama Series.

The show will take place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. The venue has changed for the first time since 1997 after last year’s postponed, pre-recorded ceremony.

After the almost invisible Golden Globes hosted exclusively on Twitter, SAGs may have just increased their profile – mainly for celebrities looking to leave their homes and campaign ahead of the Academy Awards on March 27th.

SAGs have also proven to be pretty reliable predictors for the Oscars each year, so these nominees can get a feel for déjà vu when the Oscars announce their nominees on February 8th.

SAG also intends to award Lady Helen Mirren the 2021 SAG Life Achievement Award.

Here is a complete list of the 2022 SAG Awards nominees.
