Sam Mendes makes it clear the James Bond franchise needs massive changes that it can’t provide

It is important to note that although the actor playing James Bond changes, so do the directors, but there is one consistency throughout the franchise: the man with the last name Broccoli is often the producer. As mentioned earlier, Albert Broccoli was the producer of the first James Bond and these days his daughter Barbara Broccoli is in charge of everything. As Diversity Daniel Craig was reportedly the last to play a secret agent in the latest film, No Time To Die, so the next film will have a completely different actor.

Given this information, in a recent interview Term, Sam Mendes talked about how action films are developing, and the James Bond franchise must also develop. Mendes then said, “I’m not jealous that Barbara has to follow Daniel’s five films. He breathed new life into the franchise, but the franchise is so huge that it’s very difficult for a young actor to get into it.” Mendes added: “Let me rephrase that. I think the actor playing Bond will evolve, the director should evolve. I think it would be great to see a woman in charge of Bond. I think that would be great.”

With those words in mind, it seems like Mendes doesn’t want to take the reins of the James Bond franchise again. Mendes believes films and their protagonists need to change, and the best way to do that would probably be to put a woman in the director’s chair. Either way, the next director and actor to star in a James Bond film will definitely have a lot of work to do.
