Sinead O’Connor was heartbroken after identifying the body of her teenage son, who was found dead two days after disappearing.
Shane O’Connor, 17, was found dead after disappearing from Tallaght Hospital in Dublin on Thursday.
Heartbroken mom Sinead, 55, confirmed the teen was dead and described him as “the light of my life.”
She shared her grief after identifying his body, saying, “Now I have officially identified the remains of my son Shane.
“Now I am going to retire to mourn my son.”
She also threatened the hospital with legal action after her teenage son went missing two days before his death.
The singer stated that Tallaght Hospital in Dublin “refused to take any responsibility” after Shane’s disappearance.
Police had previously filed an appeal against the missing teenager along with a photograph.
In the CCTV image, he is wearing dark jeans, a black sweatshirt with a colorful symbol on the front, a dark red top, and white sneakers.
But a Gardai spokesman confirmed that the search was “stopped” after the body was found.
A spokesman said: “Following the discovery of the body in the Bray Wicklow area on Friday, January 7, 2022, the missing persons appeal against 17-year-old Shane O’Connor has been dismissed.”
The mother of four, Sinead, has confirmed Shane’s tragic passing by paying tribute to him on social media.
She wrote: “My beautiful son, Neviim Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the light of my life, today decided to end his earthly struggle and now with God.
“May he rest in peace, and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be calm: “
She later tweeted a Bob Marley song that she dedicated to Shane: “This is for my Shane. The light of my life. Lamp of my soul. My blue-eyed child.
“You will always be my light. We’ll always be together. No border will separate us. “
‘YOU ARE MY HEART’
After Shane disappeared from a Dublin hospital, where his mother said he was under “suicide surveillance,” the singer desperately pleaded with him to return.
She said, “Shane, your life is priceless. It was not for nothing that God carved that beautiful smile on your beautiful face.
“My world would have collapsed without you. You are my heart. Please don’t stop his beating. Please don’t hurt yourself. Go to Garda and we will take you to the hospital.
“This is a message for my son, Shane. Shane, it’s no longer funny that all these are missing. You scare the hell out of me.
“Could you please do the right thing and report to the police station. If you are with Shane, please call Garda for his safety. “
The hospital said in a statement: “The HSE cannot comment on individual cases where this may lead to the disclosure of information concerning identifiable persons, which is a violation of the ethical requirement for us to comply with our duty of confidentiality.”
A spokesman for Sinead O’Connor stated: “Unfortunately, we can confirm the death of Shane O’Connor.
“We politely ask you to show respect and appreciation to Sinead, Shane’s father and Shane’s family during this most difficult time.”
