In the season 7 episode titled “The Witch’s Curse”, Kristen Wiig voices Madame Mixina, a curly, lavender-skinned hagfish in torn clothes who lives in a covered wagon. In the tape, Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown) angers Madame Hagfish when he won’t let SpongeBob SquarePants (Tom Kenny) give her Krabby Patties, so she decides to put a hex on the Krusty Krab. After bad things happen and the clients don’t show up, they ask her to break the curse, which she will do after they retrieve the golden doubloon from the dangerous eel. When she receives it, she reveals that there was no curse, and all Madame Hagfish did was put up a “closed” sign on the lawn in front of the restaurant.
The mischievous antagonist took SpongeBob and the crew for a ride in this dividing chapter, and that may have been a reference to Wig. It would seem that she enjoys playing characters that people love to hate. AT Actors on Video of actors from the stageSaoirse Ronan asked Wiig if she was attracted to dissimilar flawed characters, and she replied, “I definitely think flawed characters are more interesting to me, and the way you play them and people play you.” Her enthusiasm for playing broken personalities has undoubtedly contributed to her success and the many intriguing roles she has landed. Of all the roles she’s played, Madam Hagfish is another prime example of the misguided character she brought to life, leading to a heartbreaking good time in SpongeBob SquarePants.
