SHE has been a top supermodel for three decades, but Heidi Klum is ready to take on a new challenge by hitting the charts at the age of 48.
The German fashion queen teamed up with rapper Snoop Dogg for her first single, released yesterday, and stripped down to raunchy fishnets and underwear for the accompanying video.
But in an exclusive interview with Kristen Bell Tattoos, the German Next Top Model host admitted she was more nervous flaunting her vocal range than her figure, joking, “It’s definitely a lot scarier than showing off your body.”
Heidi, who split from singer Seal in 2014 after nine years of marriage, explains: “I’ve sung a little before – on America’s Got Talent and once in the past with my ex-husband on a show – but my own single is completely out of my comfort zone.
“It started out as a tune for my show Germany’s Next Top Model but once we got Snoop Dogg in and put him together we thought ‘why not release it properly’ – I just love Snoop, I’m a big fan of him.” . so I couldn’t be more excited.
“It was the most amazing experience to try something new. I’ve always enjoyed pushing boundaries and scaring myself a little.
“Of course, I performed on the catwalks a lot, showed off my body and starred without clothes, but this is probably the most difficult.
“But I’m very proud of it – I got in touch with all the people involved and organized it myself, so it feels like all my hard work has paid off.
“The hardest part was getting permission from Rod Stewart to listen to one of his songs, Baby Jane.
“We actually already recorded it, so all of a sudden I had to make sure he was okay – and I don’t know him personally, so I had to get his contact details from a mutual friend.
“I emailed him but then didn’t hear anything for weeks, so I thought it must not be.
“I was really scared that this would never get released and then I found his reply in my spam folder and he said it sounded like a lot of fun and gave a thumbs up. It was a huge relief.”
Photos of the mom-of-four went viral last week after she wore a bold yellow slit dress, held together only by laces down the length of her side.
And having stripped nude for fashion shoots throughout her career, Heidi admits she’s had to grow thick skin, but she never stops shining her flesh.
The beauty, who married Tokio Hotel guitarist Tom Kaulitz in 2019, explains: “I’ll probably still wear mini dresses and skimpy outfits when I’m in my sixties or older. It’s just who I am and I love it – it makes me feel great and it’s all about being confident.
“Over the years I’ve had to get a little tough looking, but I always think, ‘If you don’t want to see me like this, there are plenty of other things you can look at.’
“I hope that the fact that I still do photo shoots and show off my body at 48 will inspire others – there used to be an age limit for modeling, but I hope that this is changing and I would like to do my best to change this .
“On my TV show this year we have models in their sixties and there are a number of very successful women still working at the top level in the modeling industry who are also in their sixties and seventies, which is great.
“I AM NOT IN THE GYM AT ALL”
“Also, it became normal to be in all shapes and sizes, to have bumps and bulges—the idea of what a model should have looked like when I first started is finally starting to change.”
But despite stripping — including in a daring video shoot of her track with Snoop called Chai Tea With Heidi, which features her in a skimpy lace dress and lingerie — Heidi claims she’s not a gym fanatic.
She adds, “Rankin made the video. He is my favorite photographer and director and I love the result. It was just right and I felt confident in this outfit, even if it was short and revealing.
“It’s all about what I eat, I don’t exercise at all. I have four kids and two dogs, so I never have time to sit on the couch and eat potato chips – I’m active all the time.
“I would rather train this way than spend hours in the gym every day, so I just focus on my diet and try to eat healthy. There are so many choices these days.”
Heidi gave birth to 17-year-old daughter Leni with Italian businessman Flavio Briatore in 2004 and went on to have three more children — Henry, 16, Johan, 15, and 12-year-old Lou — with Seal, who also raised Leni as his own.
Heidi first appeared on the fashion scene in the early nineties and became one of the most successful models of all time.
She consistently appears on lists of the highest paid catwalk stars in the world and has amassed a fortune estimated at £160 million.
She has appeared on the covers of leading magazines around the world including Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, walked five times in the famous Victoria’s Secret fashion shows after appearing as one of the brand’s angels, and has also been featured in advertising campaigns for designers such as Marc Jacobs, Jean Paul Gaultier. and Givenchy.
She has also produced television shows including Project Runway in the US, made guest appearances on Sex and the City and Ocean’s 8, and launched several clothing and cosmetics lines.
While Heidi calls her third husband, German rocker Tom, her “biggest supporter,” her most famous musical connection is Simon Cowell, with whom she has worked on America’s Got Talent since 2013.
“I AM NOT SURPRISED THAT SIMON PROPOSED”
Despite his reputation as a tough pop critic, Heidi insists she’s not overly concerned about what he does to her singing career.
Of the music mogul who recently proposed to Lauren Silverman, the mother of his son Eric, Heidi adds: “Simon is a really great guy. Everyone was so supportive of the single so hopefully it stays that way, but it’s great news that he got engaged to Lauren.
“Many people said they were surprised that he was finally going to get married, but I was not at all surprised, I know them and they are perfect for each other.
“Lauren is wonderful, she is a strong and intelligent woman, very independent – you have to be like that to be with such a strong man like Simon – so they complement each other perfectly.
“I saw the ring too, it’s just huge – and gorgeous.
“Size isn’t everything, but he’s also handsome and also big enough to skate on – I’m so happy for both of them. I know they will continue to make each other very happy.”
- Single by Heidi and Snoop Dogg Chai Tea With Heidi is already out.
