This is us has given us a million pleasant moments over the years, but there is nothing better than a bond between siblings. Kevin, Kate, and Randall, whom their father Jack charmingly called the “Big Three,” had some of the show’s best moments.
First, we have Season 1, Episode 2, in which Randall recalls the iconic Big Three singing while trying to calm Kevin down. His attempt to distract Kevin draws on their shared history and brings up fond memories of the three.
In season 1, episode 15, Kevin drops everything to be near Randall when he has a nervous breakdown.
In season 2, episode 15, the Big Three team up to survive a heartbreaking day: their father’s funeral. They transfer his ashes to a special tree and get together to help their mother.
They always appear for each other, as in episode 11 of season 2. It’s a family day at Kevin’s rehab. The whole family arrives, but there comes a cute Big Three moment when Kate and Randall have a frank conversation with their brother.
Or, in Season 2, Episode 16, when Randall tells Kate during her bachelor party, “You never lose me, even if you try.”
They are always there to comfort each other, such as when Kevin and Randall help Kate on her wedding day in Episode 18 of Season 2.
In episode 15 of season 3, Kate gives birth. In this intense episode, her son is born early and her brothers come to support her in all of this.
The Big Three bond during the trip as Kevin, Kate, and Randall travel to visit Nicky. Season 3, Episode 11 reveals some harsh truths about Jack and Nicky after the war, and the three siblings lean on each other to try to reconcile the story they thought they knew.
Season 4 Episode 5, after a big fight between siblings, Kevin, Kate and Randall reunite in the backyard and discuss their future together. It shows how they reconcile like any other siblings, and in this touching moment gives a sweet glimpse into their future.
Season 4, Episode 13, aptly titled “Hell Week: Part Three,” includes a small defining moment in which Rebecca rescues her daughter from an abusive boyfriend while Randall and Kevin come to the rescue. While not necessarily a pleasant moment, it shows just how serious their bond as siblings is. They will always fight for each other, against everything and everyone.
The Big Three takes a trip down memory lane in Season 4, Episode 14. During the trip to the hut, they dig up a time capsule and listen to their father’s old recording. This is an emotional moment for them, and seeing them all together illustrates how they support each other in grief.
In the same episode “Machine” we see brief flashbacks of the “Big Three” together in the car over the years. This is a small but memorable moment that confirms what it means to grow up with siblings.
