The cast of Wakanda Forever discuss the atmosphere on set without Chadwick Boseman

At the 2022 D23 Expo, Winston Duke, Letitia Wright and Tenoch Huerta, who play M’Baku, T’Challa’s sister Shuri, and MCU newcomer Namor, respectively, spoke with People about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Because Duke and Wright worked extensively with Boseman on Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, they broached the topic of filming Wakanda Forever without Boseman. “You don’t realize that this movie wasn’t as playful between takes as the first one. When Chadwick was around, we rapped and laughed. He just wasn’t that dynamic,” Duke explained.

As for Wright, she agreed that Boseman’s absence from the set of Wakanda Forever changed the atmosphere significantly, but she didn’t think he completely disappeared. “I could only hear [Boseman] like, “Sister, you’re gorgeous. Have you received it. I’m proud of you.’ It really made me move forward,” she said, showing that she felt his presence in the most pernicious moments of her self-doubt. Meanwhile, even with Boseman gone, Queen Ramonda herself, Angela Bassett, is confident Wakanda Forever will deliver. She said Entertainment tonight“I think it will please the fans and it will be an honor for our Chad. We love our king.”

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is likely to showcase some pretty emotional rollercoasters throughout its run. Chadwick Boseman, King of T’Challa, may be gone, but he’s certainly not forgotten.
