Hulu has renewed the Emmy-winning series. The Handmaid’s Tale for the sixth and final season before the fifth season premieres on September 14.
Continuation of the series from the creator Bruce Miller. Testamentsis being actively developed. The action of the new series, based on the novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood, takes place years after the events of the 6th season.
“It has been my great honor to tell the story of Margaret Atwood’s groundbreaking novel and a chilling world, and we are thrilled to bring viewers the sixth and final season,” Miller said in a statement. “We are grateful to Hulu and MGM for allowing us to tell this story, which has unfortunately remained true throughout its run, and are in awe of our incredible fans for their unwavering support, without whom we would never have gotten to this point. this point.”
Season 5 follows June (Elizabeth Moss) in the aftermath of the assassination of Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) and the consequences she must face for her role in the gruesome murder. At a minimum, she’ll have to fight his widow Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) and, on some level, Gilead. But most importantly, she will be forced to reconsider her identity and purpose, which are now forever changed.
Meanwhile, Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) works with Nick (Max Minghella) and Aunt Lydia (Anne Dowd) to reform Gilead and rise to power. But who knows what the Commander and Nick, who helped June get Waterford to kill, have up their sleeves?
Still in Canada, June, with the help of Luke (OT Fagbenle) and Moira (Samira Wylie), fights Gilead from a distance while continuing her mission to rescue and reunite Hannah.
The fifth season also stars Madeleine Brewer, Amanda Brugel, Sam Jaeger and McKenna Grace.
