The question of whether Meghan Markle can ever become queen is being questioned

The tragic news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022 raises questions about the current line of succession. Since Prince Harry’s marriage to Meghan Markle in 2018, they have had two children, Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.

But given the recent proclamation of King Charles III, the line of succession has changed and some people are starting to wonder if that means Meghan Markle will someday be Queen of the United Kingdom.

The next King of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, King Charles III, has been proclaimed and is due to be crowned.

The eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II devoted his entire life to serving the crown and at 73 will become queen. His wife Camilla will assume the title of queen consort, a wish the late monarch expressed earlier this year. This is traditional for all wives of kings, but not for their husbands, so this may surprise the public, who are used to the queen’s husband being titled “prince”.

Therefore, the line of succession begins with Prince William.

Next in line to the throne is the eldest son of King Charles III, who recently received the title of Prince of Wales (an honor that belonged to his father until the tragic death of his grandmother). William is the heir apparent and is expected to become king in the next few decades, with his wife Kate, Duchess of Wales, expected to become queen consort.

At the age of just 9, it can be hard to believe that a boy of primary school age will ever become king, but as the eldest son of the heir presumptive Prince George of Wales, he occupies this important place in the line of succession.

Princess Charlotte of Wales is third in line to the throne.

In 2013, the Succession to the Throne Act was passed, which meant the abolition of male primogeniture. So when Princess Charlotte was born to Kate and William’s parents, she was able to take her place in the line of succession and keep it even after the birth of her younger brother.

Her brother, Prince Louis, is now fourth in line for the crown.

The youngest child of the heir, Prince William, Prince Louis is only 4 years old. The Crown Succession Act makes Prince Louis of Wales the first male royal to come after an older sister in the line of succession.

The birth of Prince William’s children has made Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, fifth in line to the British throne.

The youngest son of King Charles II and Diana, Princess of Wales has decided to step down from his role as senior member of the royal family in 2020 and moved to California with his wife, former actress Meghan Markle.

At just 3 years old, Archie (son of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex) is sixth in line to the throne.

Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor is the current grandson of King Charles III. While this attitude would traditionally have dictated that he should be given the title of prince, this has yet to be announced and there are questions about whether this will be the case at all given Prince Harry’s departure from active duty in the royal family.

The namesake of the late Queen Elizabeth, Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor, is in the line of succession after her brother.

Born in 2021, the daughter of the Duke of Sussex only met her great-grandmother for the first time in the summer of 2022, as she lives in America with her parents.

Despite recent controversy and a lawsuit filed by Virginia Giuffre, the Duke of York is still the third child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

This is because the wife of a reigning British monarch does not become queen, but instead is traditionally given the title of queen consort. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall will now assume the title after Elizabeth II stated it was her “sincere wish”. Independent reports.

So if Prince Harry ever becomes King of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, Meghan may be known as Queen Consort, but not Queen.

The queen consort does not hold any official position in parliament and does not get acquainted with official documents, but rather serves for moral support and communication with the monarch.

But because of the current line of succession, it’s unlikely that Prince Harry will ever become king.

While his father’s coronation is due to take place soon, it has been said that he would like to dedicate the rest of his life to this role before Prince William becomes king. William currently has three children, all of whom are in line for the throne before Harry.
