The unexpected way HBO Max’s Euphoria made Twitter history

Twitter Revealed Euphoria as the Most Followed Show of the Decade on Twitter (via Diversity). During the show’s knockout second season, fans buzzed all over the social media app, with users sending an impressive 30 million tweets over just eight episodes.

The second season of Euphoria built on many of the seeds planted in the first season. Ryu (Zendai) was finally caught relapsing on drugs, Cal (Eric Dane) was having a violent breakdown in front of his entire family, and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) was desperate to keep her relationship with her ex Maddie (Alexa Demi) a secret.

However, it seems that it was the less sensational element of the series that generated most of the Twitter chatter. Weird couple Lexi (Maude Apatow) and Fesco (Angus Cloud) had a sweetly blossoming romance that fans just couldn’t get enough of during the second season of Euphoria, resulting in over 270,000 tweets just about their growing relationship.

With Season 2 only wrapping up in early 2022, it’s unlikely we’ll see more of Euphoria until at least 2023, but if the show can keep up that kind of enthusiasm in subsequent seasons, it could be in for a place on the Iron Throne itself. Watch out, Game of Thrones, as Dom Ryu has warned for centuries, “Euphoria” is coming.
