The Viking Returns Episode 2

In Deadly Catch: Return of the Vikings, Sig Hansen decides it’s time to find out if troll crabs could be the future of crab fishing. “If there’s another view we could build a market on, why not?” he says, explaining to his team why they are turning around and heading back to the city. “I want to get to the beach, I want to do my own due diligence. I want to go find out what’s going on.” Jake Anderson doesn’t seem overly happy about Hansen leaving the boat, but the captain remains optimistic, telling him, “We’re in the fishery right now, but we could build a fishery.” If that doesn’t work, I can jump on the next trip, that’s not a problem.”

With all the trouble of finding enough red king crab, Hansen’s plan to find out if there’s a market for troll crab makes sense. To begin their research, he and Mandy contact family, other fishermen, and even cooks to learn about troll crabs. In the end, he makes a deal with a local Norwegian restaurant – he will provide them with 200 kilograms of troll crab and they will serve it for one night to see if there will be interest from consumers.

Hansen’s decision is quite bold and admirable. Coming from a generation of fishermen, he does not want the industry to die, but instead is ready to try to forge a new resource – the troll crab. We can’t wait for Episode 3 to find out if there really is a future for this new venture.
