Uprising Gru Doma

Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming site, has confirmed that Minions: The Rise of Gru will begin streaming on the platform on September 23rd. The sequel will start with 2015’s Minions. The popular sequel will begin streaming less than three months after its cinematic debut on July 1st. Those who don’t want to wait until the end of September to see the latest Minions antics can purchase the film digitally.

The release date for Minions: The Rise of Gru comes at a time when the film’s box office and theater numbers continue to decline. As of this writing, the Despicable Me spin-off is currently playing in 2,457 theaters nationwide (via Numbers). That number is likely to continue to drop as potential Minions viewers flock to the premium VOD to buy the film. Once the film becomes available for free streaming on Peacock, it’s safe to assume that the sequel will complete its theatrical run.

Those looking to stream the Despicable Me trilogy will be disappointed to learn that the top-grossing hits are not available on Peacock. The first two films in the franchise are currently streaming on Netflix. Despicable Me 3 is available for rent. While the entire Despicable Me franchise won’t be available on Peacock, the Minions movies can be watched alongside Jurassic Dominion, Universal’s other summer juggernaut (via Box Office Mojo).
