Where is the cast of Mary Poppins now?

It may have been 58 years since he kicked the rooftops of London under Chim Chim Cher-i, but the star of Mary Poppins Dick Van Dyke did not forget his most iconic role.

The 96-year-old actor, who played Burt the chimney sweep in the classic 1964 film, was spotted this week wearing a jumper that says “Sugar Spoon”, a nod to one of the film’s most popular songs.

The charming musical made British actress Julie Andrews famous and has been watched by generations of children for almost six decades.

But what happened to the rest of the cast? Here we look at the fate of everyone, from babies Michael and Jane to the wonderful Mrs. Banks.

Surprisingly, Mary Poppins became Julie’s film debut when she was 29 years old.

For her role in this film, she received an Oscar for Best Actress, and the following year she became the star of the film The Sound of Music.

The accomplished singer and actress was devastated after a botched throat operation in 1999 that left her unable to sing, and she later sued American Surgeons for an undisclosed amount.

Julie turned down a cameo role in the 2018 reboot of Mary Poppins Returns starring Emily Blunt, which is reportedly worth £790,000, telling director Rob Marshall: “It’s an Emily show and I want her to work with this.”

But she continues to work on new projects, including the popular film Aquaman and the Netflix series Bridgerton, which she talks about. Her net worth is estimated at £35 million and she lives in Walton upon Thames, Surrey.

Dick Van Dyke’s famous song Chim Chim Cheer-ee won the film an Oscar for Best Original Song, and the role also helped land him a role in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Most recently, the American actor starred in Night at the Museum (2006) and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014).

He made an emotional cameo in Mary Poppins Returns, switching roles to play Mr. Dawes Jr., the son of the cranky banker from the 1964 film.

Emily Blunt described his appearance as “totally touching” and it also brought director Rob to tears.

In 2012, the father of four, Dick, who has seven grandchildren, married makeup artist Arlene Silver. He was 86, she was 40.

“He liked to play pranks, find and jump from small buildings in the backyard. While I was a true Victorian and didn’t let myself get dirty or dirty, Matthew had a great sense of fun and danger.

“He was a daredevil and could have been a racing driver. And at 21, he lived a full life.”
